BEIJING, May 18 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Defense Minister Liang Guanglie met visiting Thai Military Supreme Commander Songkitti Chakkabat here Monday.
Liang, also a state councilor, spoke highly of the mutual respect and common development in all fields since the two countries forged diplomatic relationship more than 30 years before.
"China and Thailand have seen fruitful cooperation in various fields in the past years, including cooperation between the two armed forces," said Liang.
"China wishes to keep high-level communication with Thailand so as to consolidate bilateral relations and to promote the military ties between the two armed forces," added Liang.
Songkitti said it was a constant policy of the Thai government and armed forces to develop Thailand-China strategic and cooperative relations.
"The Thai government, armed forces and people treasure China's support for Thailand," said Songkitti. "And we wish to work together with China to push forward the relationship between our two countries."
Before meeting with Liang, Songkitti held talks with Chen Bingde, Chief of the General Staff of the People's Liberation Army.
At Chen's invitation, Songkitti was on a four-day visit to China which began Sunday.
